Steelers Team Report (Yahoo! Sports)
The Steelers were presented with an unwanted and unique experience this summer, having to prepare one quarterback to open the regular season and another to replace him as the starter on Oct. 17.
Coach Mike Tomlin did a good job of preparing Ben Roethlisberger for the fifth game of the season, when he can return from his four-game suspension, but had to do so at the expense of the player that would have been his starter for the first four games, Byron Leftwich. That was before Leftwich went down with a left knee (MCL) injury in Thursday's preseason finale.
Roethlisberger took many snaps with the first team in training camp and then started the final three preseason games after not playing in the opener.

Life without Roethlisberger begins for Steelers (AP)
Ben Roethlisberger loves to be the guy who gets his team out of trouble, throws the big touchdown pass, makes the play that changes a season. Only this time, Roethlisberger can't bail out the Steelers of a predicament he put them in. Instead of being the leader who rallies his teammates during tough times, he can't even talk to them about football as he serves a four-game suspension for...

Also on Monday, Steelers coach Mike Tomlin named Dennis Dixon starting quarterback for Sept. 12's season opener against the Atlanta Falcons. Jeff Reed and James Harrison also lost their leader status, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. The Steelers cut their leadership corps to four captains. Choices were made by player voting.

Steelers name Dennis Dixon opening day starter (SportingNews.com)
Dennis Dixon will be the Pittsburgh Steelers' starting quarterback when they open their season Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons. Pittsburgh planned to start Byron Leftwich the first few weeks of the season while Ben Roethlisberger served his suspension, but Leftwich sprained a knee in the Thursday's preseason finale. Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said Dixon earned the job over Charlie Batch with his strong play in the preseason. Dixon will likely start the first four games.
